Are the writers striking again...or?

I don't know how many of you saw the new episode of Fringe yesterday.  But, the writing just keep getting worse and worse.  If you want to keep reading on, beware of spoilers!!!

Last night's Fringe was titled "August".  The episode was about the observer, August (yes, there is more than one of them, and they all have individual names) saved a girl who was seemed unimportant in the eyes of the Observers.  The Observers sent an assassin to "correct" the event, since the girl was supposed to be dead in a plane crash.  The episode ended with the girl saved by Olivia and Peter, and August severely injured but took away by the "other" observer, the one that showed up in all the other episode and always ended in photographs (see picture).
August claimed that he was "in love" with the girl, that was why he saved her.  Now she will be safe because August had made her "important" enough.

Um...yeah...the plot cannot get anymore predictable than this.  Is NBC losing that much money that they can't hire a decent one???  Or did J.J. Abrams give up on the show already???
