Human may not mean to consume this...

In Genesis 2:9, it says "And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food."  So, a religious person might say that if a fruit does not have a beautiful outward appearance, then it is not meant to be eaten.
If you do not know what Durian is, there is a picture of it.  Really, it does not look "pleasing to the eye".  It looks like it can destroy your eye, in fact.  A fruit that looks like a weapon may just be a weapon.  The inside is yellow, and kind of a mushy texture.  However, it is not the look, or the taste that gives the negative image of the fruit(yes, it is a fruit).  It is the "unique" odor of the fruit that people hate.  My friend described it as "it feels like someone is pulling a prank on you."
I tried my first Durien today.  I had to say the odor wasn't as bad as I thought.  It stinks, but its tolerable, for me anyway.  I personally did not like the texture.  It is just another one of those Love or Hate situation.  People who love it say it smells like garden flower(ok, maybe not...), but people who hate it say it smells like death.

Either way, you should try it anyway, just to expand your horizon.  :-)
